Discovering Ayrton: 5G to experience the Circuit, the Car and the Driver
The virtual museum: a new way to communicate history

Imagine being able to experience the magic of Formula 1 directly on the Imola racetrack, and retracing the steps of the legendary Ayrton Senna. This is the scenario proposed by the 5G4 C.A.P. (Circuit. Car. Driver) project. The project has been funded by the Ministry of Enterprise and Made in Italy through the program to support 5G technologies through the adoption of new technologies such as Blockchain, Artificial Intelligence, Internet of Things (IoT), Edge computing and Quantum Technologies, through technology transfer centers (the “Emerging Technology Houses”) to bring together the expertise of universities with market demands.

The 5G4Cap Virtual Metamuseum pathway: how it works and how you discover it

The Virtual Metamuseum offers users the chance to fully immerse themselves in the universe of Ayrton Senna. Through Reflectis, users can enjoy through VR viewers and via the web, an immersive museum experience that tells the story of the project and the involvement of the different partners in its realization. AnotheReality, together with open innovation partner Tree, integrated 360 and 3D real-time video technologies to create an immersive environment within which visitors could live a true immersive experience, reliving through audiovisual content the myth of the most famous Brazilian driver ever.

The immersive experience of 5G4Cap Metamuseum: reliving history like never before thanks to Reflectis

What makes this experience different from the usual audiovisual narratives is the presence of a real virtual social world: in fact, the museum environment was built on Reflectis, AnotheReality’s Experience Platform, which allows visitors to access the museum anywhere in the world, either from a web device or a visor, at the same time. Users are thus able to simultaneously experience the “Circuit” directly on the Imola Autodrome track, experiencing the myth of Ayrton Senna and the magic of Formula 1 from multiple devices at the same time.

Conclusions

The Virtual Metamuseum represents an example of how technology can be used to create and disseminate immersive and educational experiences, without limits of space or time. Through the collaboration between AnotheReality, Tree and the other project partners, the 5G4Cap project offered the public a unique opportunity to explore the world of Ayrton Senna in an innovative and inspiring way, showing how technology can enhance cultural heritage in new and engaging ways
